Vision and Mission

Academia Engelberg Foundation recognizes science’s and society’s growing need for a better understanding of new and highly complex issues, their relationship with society (including politics, culture, ethics, religion, education) and business and their impact on the increasing global inequity.

Academia Engelberg conducts annual conferences in the monastery village of Engelberg, which address specific scientific topics. It wants to set in motion a dialogue among a variety of disciplines this way. Through personal exchanges among the participants from a multitude of disciplines, all the participants become aware of the questioning of their discipline from the perspective of the others on the one hand, and on the other hand, they contribute to the discussion of the common topic and thus quite concretely experience the development of a comprehensive approach. Academia Engelberg is convinced that this experience will significantly improve the discussion within the scientific community as well as society.

In a pluralistic society, sustainable progress can only take place in dialogue with the relevant groups and by including a broad range of needs, interests and activities. This is not possible, however, without finding a new language between science, politics, ethics, religion, culture, and business, which allows the open exchange of arguments.
