Morning Speakers

Reporting

In addition to the two morning speakers, Professor Detlef Günther and Professor Wilfried von Bredow, Rodine Hendrickx, doctoral student at ETH Zurich in the field of molecular biology, also spoke at the plenary session. The discussion was facilitated by Gerd Folkers.

Initially, it focused on the question of the ethical limits of science and how these differ from country to country. Rodine Hendrickx talked about her experiences with different laws and value concepts in international research groups and that these could actually be a problem.

“There is no uniform scientific ethos,” Wilfried von Bredow commented. For Detlef Günther, international research is essential, despite possible difficulties: “That is how we prevent knowledge from being monopolized.”

Subsequently, the pros and cons of university rankings were discussed. The video reveals Detlef Günther and the other discussion participants‘ somewhat surprising opinion.
