Pierre A. Clavien (*1957 in Genf) studierte Medizin an der Universität Genf.
1982 -1983 als Arzt für das Internationale Komitee des Roten Kreuzes in Peru und El Salvador im Einsatz.
1983-1988 als Chirurg am Spital Morges und an den Universitätsspitälern Basel und Genf tätig.
1989-1992 Forschungstätigkeit an der Universität Toronto (PhD).
1993 Leber Transplantationen am General Hospital von Toronto.
1994-2000 Direktor des Leber Transplantations Programms am Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. 1999 Professor.
Seit 2000 Professor und Direktor des Departements Viszeral- und Transplantations- Chirurgie am Universitätsspital Zürich.
Er hat über 20 Ehrungen und Preise erhalten und über 180 Artikel publiziert.

The ETH Board is responsible for the strategic leadership of the ETH domain and assumes the supervision of its institutions. Its close relationship with the ETH Council has contributed to the successful continuation of Academia Engelberg Foundation since 2000.

A partnership with the University of Lucerne has existed since summer 2013. Since 2016 we have also a parthership with the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Lucerne. Through these partnerships, synergies are used and joint projects are tested and realized. The University of Lucerne currently consists of three faculties: the faculties for Theology, Culture and Social Sciences, and Law.
