Abstract

  • What is the environment in which we operate?
  • What are the resulting strategies for the Swiss economy?

 

The Swiss economy is part of a highly competitive international environment and faces major challenges. Digitization and the associated transformation of the economy represent an opportunity for Switzerland as a business location. How will the social, political and economic environment evolve and what are the key success factors? These questions has been explored and strategies for a successful Swiss economy has been identified.

Heinz Karrer

Heinz Karrer studied economics at St. Gallen University.

He began his career in 1985 when he was appointed general manager of the Association of Swiss Manufacturers, Suppliers and Agents for Sports Goods.
He is the President of the Swiss business federation “economiesuisse”.

1995 – 1997 Chairman of the Management Board and Member of the Group
Executive Board of Ringier Schweiz
1998 – 2002 Swisscom group executive management and Head of the group’s
Marketing & Sales Division.
2003 – 2012 Chairman of Axpo Trading AG, Axpo Power AG, etc. Until 2014 , Chief Executive Officer at Axpo Holding AG

He serves in leading positions for NOK AG, Kuoni Destination Management, Kompogas AG, Elektrizitaets-Gesellschaft Laufenburg, Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (CKW),  Elektrizitätswerk des Kantons Schaffhausen AG, Kuoni Reisen Holding AG, SRG SSR idée suisse Deutschschweiz, Bank Council at Swiss National Bank, Notenstein Private Bank Ltd., Ringier Ltd., Luzerner Medien Holding AG, Swissgrid AG, Swisselectric.

The ETH Board is responsible for the strategic leadership of the ETH domain and assumes the supervision of its institutions. Its close relationship with the ETH Council has contributed to the successful continuation of Academia Engelberg Foundation since 2000.

The Foundation promotes research into the connecting human fundamentals of science. Academia Engelberg Foundation and the Foundation for Basic Research in Human Sciences have entered into a cooperation agreement for the period 2011 to 2015.

A partnership with the University of Lucerne has existed since summer 2013. Since 2016 we have also a parthership with the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Lucerne. Through these partnerships, synergies are used and joint projects are tested and realized. The University of Lucerne currently consists of three faculties: the faculties for Theology, Culture and Social Sciences, and Law.
