The ensuing discussion, which was facilitated by Vera Eichenauer, focused mainly on the favorite subject of the Swiss: the dialects.

“Dialects have great potential for identification,” commented Anna Diem, a student of history, cultural analysis, and Islamic studies at the University of Zurich.

“Switzerland is strongly scaled towards ‘small’ dialects,” said Peter Auer to explain this phenomenon. At the end of the discussion, Peter Auer was asked how he views the objectivity of the discussion about early French learning from a linguistic perspective.
